Razer's push for the growth of eSports has been pretty fruitful this year, from plans to build a digital entertainment hub here in Malaysia, as well as matching the government's funding of RM 10 million into the development of eSports. It's pretty clear that gaming's favourite PC peripherals maker is not playing around in their quest to elevate the state of eSports. Their latest endeavour: becoming the official eSports partner for the 2019 South East Asian games.

The 2019 SEA Games is a biannual sporting event, involving the eleven countries that make up South East Asia. Teams from across these nations compete in major sporting events like football, track and field, and more. Kuala Lumpur was the last country to host the games back in 2017, in 2019 the capital city of the Philippines, Manila, will play host to the games. It will also be the first SEA Games to feature eSports as a medal event.

With the advent of eSports being recognized in a major sporting event, it is a monumental step in creating a better and brighter future for players and fans alike. This is definitely in line with Razer's mission. It was Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan that led the rally for the inclusion of eSports for the 2019 SEA Games, and needless to say, his conquest was a success.

While no specific games have been announced for the medal events, a certain major mobile game has been announced as the first game to take center stage in the eSports category. Mobile Legends, has been announced for the SEA Games as well the developers, Moonton, being the first game partner in this historical event. Justin Yuan, CEO and co-founder of Moonton Games, said, “SEA Games 2019 is the perfect platform to propel Mobile Legends: Bang Bang into the big leagues, given our strong user base here as well as the region’s fast-growing youth and millennial population. Razer’s role as the official esports partner gives us confidence that the tournament will be nothing short of phenomenal. We look forward to seeing Southeast Asia’s best Mobile Legends: Bang Bang players face off against each other.”

Other games will be announced in due time, major games like DOTA 2 and Overwatch will most likely be the next to be included. Hopefully, even more major sporting events across the globe will follow suit as well. Those interested can check out Razer's site for more details.
